After September 11 many artists were stunned to the point of not being able to write anything about the incident. It took me a while too, and the story of the firefighters raising the flag impressed me as a symbol of our country’s strength.  

WHAT WOULD YOU DO? 

If Rosa Parks were sitting next to you on that Montgomery bus what would you do?
Would you give the ‘thumbs up’ hand when she refused to stand? What would you do?

If Martin Luther King had come to you and asked you to march what would you do?
With no permit in his hand, would you still stand by the man? What would you do?

In Tiannamen Square what would you do if those tankers were headed straight towards you?
Would you stand in their line, back in 1989? What would you do?

            Not all heroes stand so big and tall
            And the grandest don’t know they’re heroes at all.
            They act with their hearts then find their way back home.

In New York when the towers went down,
Three battered firemen just couldn’t bear to stand around.
They jumped on a boat and they stole someone’s flag.
‘Raised that Red, White and Blue, it was wrong and they knew…..
