Born in Ethiopia of Indian parents, and educated in the United States, England and India, Tom blends music influences of folk, classical, and world music with pop melodies and R&B beat. His music is totally in a class to itself. His songs are both personal and topical, direct and haiku. His performance calendar includes many well-known venues as well as shelters, halfway houses, and benefits. Tom has a heart, a very big heart.
His first CD, "INCOMING" was produced by the late and legendary Mark Heard, his other 4 have been self-produced, mixing vocals with guitar, tabla, djembe, sitar, as well as piano and violin. His silken voice expresses his lyrics in a way most singer/songwriters envy. "HEAR YOU LAUGHING" was awarded Best Indie Album of 1997 by the Kerrville Music Awards, and his albums have regularly appeared on many of the year top ten lists culminating in the Folk Music Digest's compilation list: The "WAY OF THE WORLD" was in the top five in 1994, and "HEAR YOU LAUGHING" in the 1997 top ten. He was in the Kerrville Folk Festival's New Folk Contest in 1993, has been awarded WAMMIES (Washington Area Music Association Awards) for best male vocalist since 1993, as well as Songwriter of the year in 1997 and Song of the Year for "Sleeping Beauty". He has performed at the Kennedy Center, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Bluebird Cafe and many many more! He has performed with Peter Yarrow, Michael Hedges, David Wilcox, Janice Ian, Ani DiFranco and many others. The song "See Myself in You" was written with Tom Kimmel and recorded by Randy Travis on his new album INSPIRATIONAL JOURNEY. It played a prominent role in the 'Touched by an Angel" series on CBS earlier this spring. It is truly one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
Christine Lavin says, "Brilliant writer, amazing performer, sensational singer". Billboard says, "Tom is the most compelling presence to emerge in the Signer/songwriter genre as I've seen in a long time." Performing Songwriter: "Has been wowing audiences with his gentle stage presence and his explosive music ability."
The first time I heard Tom I couldn't WAIT to have him here at Little Lake Hill. We are thrilled that he is finally going to be here! Have a listen to some of his tunes!
Reservations ($10) for this show are necessary and can be made at (919) 787-6378 or at bett_padgett@mindspring.com. As always, the artist makes the gate at house concerts here, making it a very special venue. On November 14th the Little Lake Hill Red Maple will be at its peak...another reason to make this show! Don't wait too long as Tom has a HUGE following!
