Seventeenth Show
SOLD OUT!!!
SLOAN WAINWRIGHT
TRIO
FRIDAY, MAY 17TH
8 PM
Sloan shares the family's famous last name and impressive vocal cords, but she is otherwise a distinctive member of one of the country's most prolific singer-songwriter clans. Her music cannot be easily classified. Not part of the 'new' music generation like her nephew Rufus Wainwright and her niece Martha, nor of the musical establishment like her oldest brother, Loudon Wainwright 3rd....she is searching to find a niche for her hybrid musical style. Described by the Boston Globe as a "masterful amalgam of folk, rock, jazz, blues and an occasional tincture of funk." Sloan's music is one of a kind and completely unique in its melding of poetry, humor, innovative arrangements and captivating rhythms. Discovering her music is like discovering a treasure." Her latest CD, THE SONG INSIDE takes this creative poignancy of artists like Joan Armatrading and Joni Mitchell, and other times as forthright and straightforward as Neil Young or Elvis Costello.
Anne Saunders of FALCON RIDGE FOLK PRODUCTIONS says, "If you have never heard Sloan, do yourself a favor. This woman has a voice like nothing you have ever heard. She can hit notes, I could swear, you can't actually hear with your ears...they just vibrate in your bones, so you think you're really hearing them. Her range must be close to five octaves and starts somewhere down where only trees and other elemental beings of the earth can hear."
THE WASHINGTON POST says, "At her best, she's poetic, passionate and spiritual. Moreover, given the power and soulfulness of her voice, a throaty alto, she's more apt to bring to mind such powerhouse singers as Joan Armatrading and Toni Childs."
PERFORMING SONGWRITER say, "Her thick as molasses voice gets under your skin all in the right ways"
Sloan has two CDs on Waterbug label, and her third, a recent release, on Farkie label. She is well known for her coverage of Beatles and Greateful Dead tunes, and now for her own powerful lyrics and melodies. Residing in New York she and her duo, Cary Brown on keys and Stephen Murphy on guitar, will fill the 'concert hall' with a sound not yet heard within its walls! This is a show NOT to be missed.
