 BILL MIZE

SATURDAY, APRIL 7

8:00 PM

Bill Mize is a past winner of the National Fingerstyle Guitar Competition in Winfield, Kansas and was a contributing artist for the Windham Hill Guitar Sampler. His music is featured on the 1997 Grammy-Winning recording, "STELLALUNA.Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine says he is not your ordinary Chet-scholar who can keep the bass going on one and three with the rhythmic integrity of an atomic clock! He writes melody-drenched instrumentals and arranges ballads with a sensitivity and sparseness that belies his "I'm-past-the-point-of-having-to-stun-guitar-players musical maturity." Seldom do people bring together such diverse currents as R&B, Booker T and the MG's flavored strains with open tuning and steel-string virtuosity in such an engaging delightful manner. Seldom do people  write guitar tunes that stand on their own, possessing the melodic strength that enables them to bear up under repeated listening.....and arrange classics like the Beatles "Come Together", Stephen Foster's "Hard Times" and the English traditional "The Water Is Wide" demonstrating such a wide bandwidth of musical comprehension.  On his latest CD "Coastin'", his "Take Me To the River" gets downright nasty, not an easy task on acoustic guitar. (Vintage Guitar magazine Record Reviews)

Bill lives in Tennessee, a soft-spoken guy who enjoys telling stories of where these melodies come from just as much as he enjoys playing them. He will have the audience spell-bound......Come see for yourself!

Reservations are $10 and can be made at (919)787-6378 or email at bett_padgett@mindspring.com or bett@bettpadgett.com

Jazziz Magazine says: Bill Mize, a fingerstyle virtuoso goes beyond the mastery of such pioneers as John Fahey and Leo Kottke. His touch is magic, his ideas flow in rapid succession and his execution remains flawless."
