DANA AND SUE ROBINSON

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15

8:00 PM

$12

This is going to be a really FUN show!!! This is Dana's second visit (see house concert # 12 below), but the first show for the newlyweds together here! Dana's first show here sold out and it's no wonder why! Dana is an accomplished songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist (guitar, fiddle, mandolin) and Susan also is a very fine musician, bringing rich harmonies and claw-hammer banjo into their duo. Their blend of traditional music and original material will make for another WONDERFUL evening at Little Lake Hill House Concerts.

Dana and Susan Robinson are based in Asheville, North Carolina. Dana was raised in California, then moved to the Northeast; Susan was raised in the Northeast, then moved to California. They spent most of their lives crisscrossing paths until on Saint Patrick's Day, 2002, Susan attended a house concert Dana was giving in California
In the early 80's, Dana settled in northern Vermont and built a house - without electricity and phone - on 30 acres near the Canadian border. There he founded a popular bakery and café where the folk concerts he presented became a valued cultural staple of the community. Dana launched into full-time touring after the release of his debut album Elemental Lullabye in 1994, encouraged by the request to perform at Carnegie Hall for Putumayo's Shelter benefit concert. Since then, Dana has been performing more than 150 concerts each year across the US, Canada, and United Kingdom. Dana's guitar styles draw from influences as diverse as America's Norman Blake and Tim O'Brien to England's Nick Jones and John Martyn. Dana's songwriting has been likened to that of Steve Goodman and Dougie MacLean, but also tells of many scenes that perhaps Woody Guthrie himself has seen.
In 2002, Susan had been working as an environmental grant writer in California and studying Scottish fiddle. A natural musician, having played piano and oboe in addition to the fiddle, Susan took instantly to the guitar and banjo when she and Dana met.  Together they complete a circle that allows them to more fully explore their passion for merging traditional and contemporary music.

Here's what the press is saying: "Many songwriters such as Bruce Springsteen, or John Mellencamp have been heralded as modern day Woody Guthries or keepers of the American rural spirit, but that mantle might be better entrusted to musicians like Dana Robinson who embody both the heart and the soul of folk music" (Dirty Linen)
"A poet's perspective delivered in quietly spectacular musicianship... the music sounds laid back even while his guitar licks are knocking your socks off
" (Music Matters)
Dana is
among the most well-rounded and overall talented acoustic musicians on the circuit. His lyrics, melodies, humor and stories were always great! (Mike Myer, KRVM, Eugene OR)
Those of you who have seen Dana and Sue will attest to this!

Have a listen yourself  to Dana (and Sue's) arrangements of traditional tunes and original songs too!!
