FREE PLANET RADIO

The shared vision of three multi-instrumentalists exploring the infinite and seamless relationships between musical cultures through the universal language of sound.

This Ashville-based world fusion trio combines musical ideas and instruments from around the globe. Their first appearance here in early 2005 (show # 44) sold out and I imagine this show will also! The band consists of Chris Rosser on Indian dotar, Turkish cumbus, guitars, piano and melodica; River (Paul) Guerguerian on Middle Eastern frame drums and doumbek, cajon, drumset and other world percussion instruments, and Eliot Wadopian on electric and string basses. Sharing a vision of the exploration of the infinite and seamless relationships between the musical cultures of the planet, they have established themselves as a fine band. They have performed locally, and as individuals they have performed around the world with such groups as Paul Winter Consort, David Wilcox, Judy Collins, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, BBC Concert Orchestra, just to name a few, and have appeared on over 200 recordings!

Each member of this trio has extensive performing schedules on top of their normal 'work' as teachers, sound recording engineers and studio musicians. You can learn more about them at their website. Their individual sites are below. We are VERY lucky to have them able to be with us!

Chris Rosser is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter (and I'll bet he will share some of this with us as well!), composer and producer. He tours nationally and has shared stages with folks such as Nickel Creek, John Mayer, Shawn Mullins, John Gorka, David Wilcox, Tom Rush and more. Chris has released a new CD since his last show here making 4 solo recordings. He has won songwriting contests at the Rocky Mountain Folks and Merle Watson Festivals. With the help of a 1999 WNC Regional Artists grant, and was awarded a songwriter/composer fellowship from the NC Arts Council. No stranger to Cary's (former) Six String Cafe, many of you may be fans of Chris already!

River (Paul) Guerguerian is a multi-percussionist, composer and educator who ha performed professionally for 20 years with such groups as the BBC Concert Orchestra, New Music Consort, Grammy and Oscar winning composer Tan Dun, Tibetan Singing Bowl Ensemble, and many more. His compositions have been commissioned and performed by chamber ensembles, universities, modern dance companies and new music festivals around the country. River has been recorded on over 50 albums and film soundtracks. This man's fingers move SO FAST ON THE DRUMS THAT THEY SEEM TO BE INVISIBLE!

Grammy Award-winning bassist Eliot Wadopian has been a professional musician for more than 27 years. Eliot held the bass chair for the Paul Winter Consort, has played with David Wilcox, Judy Collins, Yo Yo Ma, the Cab Calloway big band and many many more! He also performs regularly in several bass sections of many regional mid-Atlantic symphony Orchestras, as well as teaches at Western Carolina University.

One thing I CAN promise you, is that you may not have ever heard music this rich, this diverse before. These three talents combined truly bring the world's music together in an amazingly wonderful and lively way! Have a listen for yourself!
