Something of a late-bloomer, singer/songwriter Kate Campbell didn't begin her professional career until the age of 30, but in short order, she managed to include the likes of Guy Clark, Emmylou Harris, Buddy Miller and the heart of the Muscle Shoals classic soul and R&B! Since her 1995 recording debut she has put together a body of work matched only by Emmylou in consistency, Lucinda Williams in terms of pure, wrenching, honest self-examination and self-revelation and no one for its sheer display of broad-based, intimate artfulness.

Her endearing, clear-water vocal delivery, eloquent gift for storytelling (which has drawn repeated comparisons to the writing of Flannery O'Connor, Eudora Welty and William Faulkner) and her easy command of many range of American music styles have  earned  her recognition as a formidable talent by critics, musicians and the public.

Kate has 5 CDs to her credit...Her first, Songs from the Levee. Her second and third, Moonpie Dreams (1997) and Visions of Plenty (1998) both garnered "Folk Album of the Year" nominations from the Nashville Music Awards. 1999's Rosaryville extended the upward-bound arc of enthusiastic radio airplay. Her latest CD, Wandering Strange, is a Gospel recording, quite unlike any other that has come before it. Not surprising, as she is the daughter of a Baptist preacher from Sledge, Mississippi.

Her formative years were in the very core of the civil rights movement of the 1960's and the indelible experiences of those years have shaped her heart, character and convictions.

Kate has been a featured performer at the Cambridge Folk Festival and the Philadelphia Folk Festival. She has also been featured on NPR's All Things Considered and Live From Mountain Stage.
