SEPTEMBER 12TH 8:00 PM
CELEBRATES A CD RELEASE, ANOTHER MILESTONE BIRTHDAY AND BENEFIT FOR THE LIGHTHOUSES OF NC
AND PRESERVATION OF DOROTHEA DIX 306 ACRES

A CD that has been LONG in the making in that it took two years to learn how to use a home recording studio, but  more challenging was finding the time to write songs for a compilation. My Shooting Star is a short little CD, only eleven songs, but packed with stories of wishes and hopes for us all. Many of you may known me as a music teacher, having taught guitar in various places since 1979, (NCSU from '79 until '08), and also as hostess of the Little Lake Hill House Concert Series for nearly ten years, and also as president of the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society (OBLHS). I also share concerns of the environment and open space, as my husband, Bill, does. The preservation of the remaining 306 acres of the Dorothea Dix Hospital (our state's mental hospital since 1856) is a major concern. We are unsure when the hospital will close, but when it does, this is some of the most beautiful property in Raleigh and it would make a grand destination park. All proceeds from this show will be donated to The OBLHS and to Dix 306.

My Shooting Star is a fifth CD and two more are in the making. One is of NC's fabulous history and is entitled: NC, A Musical History Tour, and also is one about our state's famous lighthouses! More information can be found here about previous releases along with song samples.
A description of the music? The songs are engaging, stories and conversations and are melody driven through alternate tunings on the guitar. Ray Dorsey (an independent critic) says, "it’s purely LOADED, from pillar to post, with one fantastic songsmith nugget after another" and "we’re talking about a vocal presence that’s right up there with Joni Mitchell on “Blue.”                                                            Have a listen!

AMY'S JOURNEY

MY SHOOTING STAR

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

NO MATTER WHAT THE COST

It was an honor to sing and play for such welcoming audiences at a CD release in 2002 (show # 13, link is broken) and for a benefit in 2007 (show #65) and very humbling that the shows sold out! It would be wonderful to get a crowd here to celebrate not only the CD itself, but also the long-awaited restoration of Bodie Island Lighthouse and Ocracoke Lighthouse and turning 60!

Reservations for this show are necessary (donations of $15 are appreciated --- all goes to 2 good causes!) and can be made at (919)787-6378 or email . Please allow 3 days for a confirmation and limit reservation parties to 4 people. Let's celebrate!
