We are SO EXCITED to have Kate back here!! Since her last show at Little Lake Hill in October of 2003 she has recorded another 4 CD's---now a total of 11! Kate is not only a prolific songwriter, but one of the very best. Her music has been compared to that of Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nanci Griffith and Lucinda Williams, but her music is really her own. It has been said that if Eudora Welty had put her writings to music, it would be just like Kate's.
    As the daughter of a Baptist preacher from Sledge, Mississippi, her formative years were spent in the very core of the Civil Rights movement of the 60's. Her experiences of those years have shaped her heart, character and convictions ever since. As a child of the South, Kate's musical tastes were forged in the dampered smoky fires of soul, R&B, Southern rock, country and folk music. She has a gift of storytelling which has drawn repeated comparisons to to the Southern writing tradition as Flannery O'Connor, Eudora Welty and William Faulkner. An evening with Kate, or listening to one of her CDs is like curling up with a wonderful novel.
    Her first CD was released in 1995 and her 1997 and 1998 CDs, Moonpie Dreams and Visions of Plenty each  garnered the "Folk Album of the Year" nominations from the Nashville Music Awards.  Kate has been a featured performer at the Cambridge Folk Festival and the Philadelphia Folk Festival. She has also been featured on NPR's All Things Considered and Live From Mountain Stage.
