Beth's addition to this show will be phenomenal!!!!! |
Bill Mize has been on our PLEASE RETURN list for many years! (Check the 7th show at the end of this page). His sold out show in April of 2000 left many people spell bound. Folks who asked before the show, "Why doesn't he sing?" truly understand the scope of his creativity with his instrument: the guitar! Bill's music is as multi-faceted as most people would like to be multi-lingual! He plays jazz, blues, funk, beautiful fingerstyle guitar with his personal arrangements of old traditional tunes (check out his website to hear some!) Bill Mize is a past winner of the National Fingerstyle Guitar Competition in Winfield, Kansas and was a contributing artist for the Windham Hill Guitar Sampler. His music is featured on the 1997 Grammy-Winning recording, "STELLALUNA." Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine says he is not your ordinary Chet-scholar who can keep the bass going on one and three with the rhythmic integrity of an atomic clock! He writes melody-drenched instrumentals and arranges ballads with a sensitivity and sparseness that belies his "I'm-past-the-point-of-having-to-stun-guitar-players musical maturity." Seldom do people bring together such diverse currents as R&B, Booker T and the MG's flavored strains with open tuning and steel-string virtuosity in such an engaging delightful manner. Seldom do people write guitar tunes that stand on their own, possessing the melodic strength that enables them to bear up under repeated listening.....and arrange classics like the Beatles "Come Together", Stephen Foster's "Hard Times" and the English traditional "The Water Is Wide" demonstrating such a wide bandwidth of musical comprehension. On his third CD "Coastin'", his "Take Me To the River" gets downright nasty, not an easy task on acoustic guitar. (Vintage Guitar magazine Record Reviews) Have a listen to several of his tunes on his latest CD, "Joyful Noise"
There are more tunes and reviews on Bill's own website, but please, just know, that his music is insurmountable, and his performance is almost 'angelic' in displaying his love of the guitar and his interpretation of old songs and his own creations. Bill Mize is extremely well known among the finger style/jazz/blues musicians. The addition of Beth Bramhall on accordion will enhance Bill's talent, and is another 'MUST SEE' show at Little Lake Hill. Reservations ($10) for this show are necessary and can be made at (919) 787-6378 or at bett@bettpadgett.com. Reservation parties will be limited to groups of 4. Bill's show sold out 4 1/2 years ago, and I imagine many people will remember how wonderful he was. Don't wait too long! And remember that the artists get the ENTIRE GATE here at Little Lake Hill House Concerts!!! This is a 'win-win' situation!! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
