Fourth Show

Before a crowd of about 80 spellbound people:

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 6TH

7:30 PM

BOB FRANKE & LUI COLLINS

Bob Franke (rhymes with 'Yankee') is at the peak of his craft; brimming with the wise and spiritually generous songs for which he is best known, and sugared with the hilarious. His tunes have been covered by Peter, Paul and Mary, David Wilcox, John McCutcheon, Sally Rogers; Garnet Rogers, June Tabor, Lui Collins, Tony Rice, Gordon Bok, Priscilla Herdman and the list goes on!  "For Real", "The Great Storm is Over", and "Hard Love" are only a few of his remarkable songs. The Boston Globe says "Franke can make you laugh, but also sit you back in slack-jawed silence at the beauty of his songs...a first-rate artist." From Tom Paxton: "It's his integrity...I always think of Bob as if Emerson and Thoreau had picked up acoustic guitars and gotten into songwriting. There's touches of Mark Twain and Buddy Holly in there too." His songs are the kind of songs that really do have the power to change the world. His vivid storytelling and folk-based music are drawn from his Christian beliefs. "Remarkable songwriter whose poetry contains disarming insights into human emotion; he can ALSO slip in a mean bottleneck blues!" (Chicago Magazine)...."Tuneful, touching and funny!" (Diversions)

Recently Bob was honored by friends with the BOB FRANKE 30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION. Noel Paul Stookey, Tom Paxton, Linda Waterfall, Lui Collins, Jack Hardy and others gathered at Sanders Theatre in Cambridge to honor Bob by singing Bob's songs. The evening convincingly displayed the love in Franke's songs moves far beyond the dating-and-mating love that is found in so much of today's pop.

Eight CDs to his credit, IN THIS NIGHT was named #1 Acoustic Recording of 1991 by WUMB-FM (Boston) and nominated as Outstanding Folk Album by the 1992 Boston Music Awards. Bob Franke is a Songwriters' Songwriter.

Lui Collins is coming back full force from a period of being off the road to raise a family. She began in the 70's covering songs of Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell, and began writing her own shortly thereafter. Blending Celtic and Appalachian influences plus her own unique gift of piercing lyrical insight, Lui re-invents herself with a compelling new body of work. Now with seven solo CDs, one duo and many compilations, Lui returns to tour to promote her latest disc, LEAVING FORT KNOX.

Dave Van Ronk says "She sings my songs better than I do." In turn, other musicians have recorded songs written by Lui Collins: Garnet Rogers, Priscilla Herdman, to name just a few. she was awarded the OMAR, one of the Best Folk Albums of 1985 for her album THERE'S A LIGHT by WOMR (Provincetown, Massachusetts) and nominated in 1991 for Boston Music Awards Outstanding Folk Act.
