2nd show presents

SCOTT AINSLIE

The first time I heard Scott perform I knew that he would put Durham, NC on the musical map.....and he is!  He is at home on any stage and we are so happy that he will be on our 'own' stage at Little Lake Hill.

Scott is described as a magnificent musician and a mesmerizing historian, he presents concerts on the African roots and the American diversity of the blues, America's most influential indigenous music. Using anecdotes from the lives of original performers, history and sociology, Ainslie tracks the movement of African musical and cultural ideas across the Atlantic and across the South with visits to the East coast's ragtime blues, the Mississippi Delta's deep blues, slide guitar and early gospel music. He's written the best-selling book "Robert Johnson/At the Crossroads" on Mississippi blues legend Robert Johnson as well as produced a teaching video, "Robert Johnson's Guitar Techniques: on Starlicks Video's Master Sessions series. He has two popular CDs to his credit,

"Jealous of the Moon" and "Terraplane," and will soon release a new CD of blues-influence original songs. Although Scott spends much of his time in the classroom and giving workshops, he is a most dynamic performer, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. In his hands, the blues twist and come alive. "Dirty Linen" says "What distinguishes Ainslie's work is his fiery picking and slide work and his deep passionate bluesman's growl." "Blues Review" states that "Even better, Ainslie can really sing. His powerful, emotional voice must have redlined the studio meters more than once, yet he never sounds jive, never sounds forced. He's a natural."

He will receive the SAM RAGAN FINE ARTS AWARD  from St. Andrews Presbyterian College (their 20th annual awards) September 21st. He will be awarded A LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD from the National Slide Guitar Fest  on September 23rd.  He will head the  educational in school component for the Bull Durham Blues Festival in September. Scott will also participate in NCSU's University Scholar's Programs, teaching concerts. He played with Pete Seeger and Tom Chapin at the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Brooklyn Bridge and has appeared with David Bromberg, John Lee Hooker, Jorma Kaukonen and John Hammond. He rarely just performs in the triangle area so we are excited to be his hosts for the evening!
