DUCK BAKER

SATURDAY, JANUARY 13TH

8:00 PM

Duck Baker is one of the most highly regarded fingerstyle guitarists of his generation! His jazz repertoire spans the entire history of the music from ragtime through swing and modern masters such as Thelonius Monk and Herbie Nichols. He devotes much of his love and talent also to blues, Appalachian, and Scots-Irish music. Born in 1949, Duck grew up Richmond Virginia (almost a local boy!) and played in rock and blues bands. He moved to San Francisco in the early 70's where he recorded the first of several CDs (records) on the Kicking Mule label (mostly Jazz and Irish). He then lived and traveled through Europe and Australia and returned to San Francisco in '87. since the 80's Duck has focused on his own compositions which reflect the influence of jazz piano.

Duck has longer been known as a writer than a musician! Many satirical pieces and reviews have appeared in underground papers as well as articles in Jazz Times, Acoustic guitar, guitar Player, Dirty Linen (to name a couple!)

As of present, Duck has more than 20 solo CD's (his latest is of Christmas Music!), six duo CD's, eighteen anthologies of ragtime, fingerpicking, Irish reels, jigs, hornpipes and airs, blues, and Scott Joplin Fingerstyle.. His music has been included on countless film soundtracks! He has several instructional CDs, videos and books on blues, Celtic, fingerstyle jazz, swing, gospel -----------etc. It is quite obvious that in Duck's short span here on Earth he has been one of the most prolific people ever! You can learn more about him on his website.
