JOHNSMITH

"The souls of these shoes are wearin' thin

from all of the miles, I have spent searchin'

the trail might be cold, but it's not quite frozen

I'll find my way, if I just walk each day

with my heart wide open"

These are a few insightful lyrics from John's tune

"Heart Wide Open" from TRAVELER.

Johnsmith (he tells me he runs his first and last names together to avoid having the most common name in the world) was the third in a family of ten kids, all born within ten years. In high school he sang with  a R&R band. At the same time he was absorbing the sounds of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and James Taylor, which is reflected in his writing and his style which began early in college. He has been traveling the musician's road for the past 30 years and what that journey entails certainly has inspired the heartfelt songs he writes.

John is a winner of songwriting awards from Kerrville (New Folk), Napa Valley, Telluride and Rocky Mountain Folk festivals!  All three of his CDs have received rave reviews. His third, TRAVELER reflects his Irish roots. Many of his tunes here were inspired by a tour in Ireland's fishing villages and friendly pubs.

"John is a gentle soul with a big vision" (WUMB Boston)---with a bright spirit (Bett Padgett) "Killer lyrics, great guitar work, and a phenomenal ability to connect with an audience." "Johnsmith is one of those really pure-hearted people that isn't wasting any time on the 'cool factor'" (Puremusic)

Johnsmith is yet another Swannanoa Gathering mentor....each of which is a gifted instructor, but mainly gifted musicians, songwriters and performers. There is something uniquely special about each one and Johnsmith is no exception!   Have a listen to some of his tunes below and imagine hearing them in a warm, intimate environment combined with John's vivacious performance and stories!
